Default Screaming eagle adjustable pushrods

Hi gang. I have a 2015 ultra and it has adjustable pushrods. Having some valve train noise and wanted to make sure they are adjusted correctly. Anyone have a YouTube video or a better way to understand the Harley instructions?

First you raise the rear tire
Then you put it in 5th or 6th gear
Then you remove the spark plugs to allow you to rotate the engine
Then you remove all 4 pushrod covers
Then you loosen all 4 pushrods all the way, it's easier if you remove the 3 you're not working on for cleanace
Then you get the first lifter you're adjusting start on a back one, on the lowest point of the cam, when it's all the way down
Then you turn that one out with your fingers until it JUST TOUCHES the lifter and won't move up and down
Mark a flat on the upper part, using 2 wrenches and while holding the bottom start turning the upper part the recommended number of turns
Then lock it in place with the floating nut using a 3rd wrench, make sure nothing moves.
Take a 15-20 minute break and come back, see if that lifter has bled down by trying to turn it with your fingers.
If I missed a step that's in the instructions, add it in at the appropriate location.
If it doesn't turn WAIT UNTIL IT DOES.
Once it does,
Then repeat the whole process again on the next rod, same block. 1 at a time. the whole process should take about 2 hours.
If I missed anything add it in at the appropriate location.

They say to disconnect the battery negative, I don't know why. Just don't turn it on or hit the start button until you're done.

I would add, "at the lowest point on the cam with the piston at TDC on the compression stroke".

@ ranger73 that sounds about right. So once your at the bottom of the lobe you adjust the rod until it's touching the lifter and the rocker then tighten more to specifications of the lifter, then let it sit?

What tool do you use to put in the spark plug to make sure if it's tdc? Or do you not need a tool?

A whistler or a 11" tie wrap. But TDC is the same as if you just stick your fingers in the lifter holes and feel for when it's bottomed out.
TDC is more critical when you do the timing.
I did that too with the new S&S HI-4N ignition I just installed.

Google it or YouTube it if you're confused and watch it repeatedly.
I don't know everything but that's what I did and I can do it in my sleep now. As I just did a cam change, with lifters and rods.
But I'll forget in a few months.

I use a drinking straw as it will blow out of the hole on the compression stroke.

Before you loosen any pushrods pick a cylinder to put on tdc compression stroke so you'll be on the base circle on the cam for that cylinder. I put my finger over the spark plug hole whole rotating the rear wheel and if it pushes my finger off i know it's the compression stroke. Like some one else said use a drinking straw to determine tdc...i used s pencil once and almost snapped it off inside the cylinder...that would have ruined my whole day. YouTube pushrod adjustment...theres an s&s video that is very good... a factory service manual is pretty helpful too

i use rivera
lifter must be pumped up, aka, full of oil
you must know tpi of the p/r mine are 40 tpi and one turn equals .025
find front tdc and both p/r fully down and p/r are slack
make sure the lifter plunger is against retaining clip
bring p/r down till it has slight drag and then go four turns or .100
lock down p/r and wait atleast 10>15 minutes, do not rotate engine or piston/valve strike may occur
when the p/r has slight movement/drag
then it is safe to repeat on the rear.

IF you are using lifter spacers, this process is diff the above is for with out spacers.
