Default .005 runout. Leave alone?

I’ve got 5 thou runout measured at the pinion shaft on my somewhat built up 2017 Twin Cam. I know Harleys acceptable is .012 (which is insane). I’m thinking while 5 thou isn’t bad, it’s not good. And for longevity’s sake (I’m never selling this bike) I’m wondering if I should bite the bullet and send the short block out to dark horse for rebuild/upgrades ($1700 and a painful month and a half).

If I left the top end where it is (see my sig for all the stuff I’ve done) would you just leave it alone and live with the .005 runout?

Thanks

My son rode my 2003 300 miles home from Milwaukee sounding like he was dragging chains. Found the pinion out more than 0.060" and it still ran....

Well I sure don’t want to waste money, but I also want to keep this bike in good shape. So if you think .005 is ok for the long term, great. I’ll leave it alone. But if I’ll be looking at grinding up my cam plate bushings and oil pumps over time, that’s not something I’d like to set.

Well, lol, it’ll also probably run on one cylinder, but that’s not something you would want to leave it as, right?

I have run gear driven cams at .0045" with no issues; not intentionally though. When I installed the gears, runout was .0025" but, over time, it grew to .0045". I ran it that way for about 15K miles but got the bug for a rebuild for more power. Had Darkhorse o their thing on the crank for the rebuild.

.... which only goes to reinforce my favorite saying - "Evos don't break down... but they occasionally get inconvenient to operate."

Actually I was a mile and a half from home and drove it 40 mph.. I was pretty drunk.. The next morning I drove it down to my shop 5.5 miles.. Made it no problem, just really loud hammering every time a cylinder would fire.....
