Water pump 2015 CVO
I have a 2015 CVO Limited that is having a check engine light and water pump fault code, however the temp light does not illuminate. The original pump failed two years ago and was upgraded to the new sysytem. Everything checks out under diagnostics, the fans and pump are operating correctly. Could it be the ECT sensor causing the fault?
I'm at a loss right now, might have to take it in. I tested everything, including the sensor. The only thing I found is the resistance for the sensor was 2.6k and the book calls for 3500-4700. I spoke to a buddy, who is a Harley mech, and he said anything above 2k is fine. The only thing I didn't do was pull the sensor and check the resistance in hot water. However, I figured if the pump and fans are operating normally that wasn't necessary. I cleared the code and it hasn't come back yet, knock on wood. If it is the pump going bad, the downfall is Harley doesn't sell just the pump, I have to purchase the whole kit at $350.00. I explained I already have the upgraded system, and Harley said it doesn't come seperate. I have a long trip this weekend, guess I'll see what happens.
My guess is sensor. If it's off 900 ohm and that's a big percentage off when range is 3500 to 4000.
Is that range at a certain temperature? Most are which means you need to know temperature of coolant or least base of sensor.
It's not going to hurt anything. Throw annoying codes once in a while. If all was good next time if it sets again, I would replace sensor. That is definitely a annoying codes poping up and it would annoy me even if I knew it was not too hot.
That sensor is only $23 on Ronnies. Your dealer is probably going to be less then the total with shipping. If it were me, and a mechanic was guessing he knew better then service manual, I would be very polite and when he wasn't looking get one.

The book didn't state a temperature, just to check for resistance between the terminals. I ordered one off J&P for $29.42 Shipped. My local shop did not have them and said it would take 3-4 weeks before they could get it. I'm gonna replace it anyway just for peace of mind.
