I've got the exact same noise, and maybe more, on my 2000 Springer. It was just in the shop. Over $2,600 of work, and the ticking is still there. Some of that clicking is actually coming from the Mikuni carb, likely from the slide. According to my mechanic, the other clicking is coming from the Screaming Eagle cam, a SE-225. He said some high performance cams tend to do that.

You and your buddies need to get out and listen to more Harleys; what you hear is nothing to lose any sleep over. I hear a little bit of valve train noise which may be eliminated by doing what Max suggests or just setting lifter preload about .135"-.140".

Well, in your OP you mentioned you switched to solid pushrods, so, since the OEM pushrods are solid, I assumed you had tried adjustable pushrods and switched. If that is not the case, you might be able to eliminate the background, barely audible, "tick" with adjustable pushrods with more pre load than the solid ones are providing.

BTW, are your buddies running Woods 6H cams? Same compression? Same springs? Same open air filter? If you are going to compare, compare apples to apples.:icon_wink;

Have you pin pointed the issue yet? In my bike, when I asked my mechanic if I could turn the pushrods (S$S Quickees) a couple of more flats, he said he would not advise I do that. I am still leaning toward the cams being the culprit (I already have the Rocker Lockers). If it is not an upper engine noise, what else is left?

some questions to ask based on what i've seen and read in this thread.
are the base circles the same as stock on the wood cam? if not you need adjustable pushrods or non adjustable of the correct length.
how much has been removed from the head deck surface,,,noticed SE heads, not all created equal and may not have the same dimension as stock, also requiring a pushrod length solution. combine those 2 issues?
combine that with a known noisy cam and a known carb noise.
what is the cam drive system? hydraulic or spring?? couldnt see any info on that in the postings. did you measure your rocker arm end play?
are you absolutely sure the noise is not coming from the primary?
just things that i would look for.
