Default Aftermarket oil pumps

The aftermarket high volume oil pumps have more volume and pressure. They also are able to scavenge more oil than the stock pump. Obviously scavenging more oil would be good. My understanding is the piston jets are set up to not function until 9-12 psi. Thats about stock hot oil pressure. So the piston jets most likely don't spray at idle? If I put a high volume pump in and the pressure is higher, wouldn't the piston jets work at idle? Wont that cause sumping or does the higher volume scavenge section of the pump take care of the excess?

After market pumps typically have a higher scavenge to feed ratio so sumping at idle can be corrected. Still, no reason to got to a bigger pump on a stock motor. If you are having overheating issues look for sumping for other reasons. Add a set of head fans if you sit in traffic a lot.

I have it apart right now to do the top end.. it definitely had blow.by. It was also sumping, loosing power when hot and pushing oil out the crankcase breather I installed a few years ago. I drained the crankcase today and got 12 oz out of it. Crank only has .001 runout and oil pump still looks good at 70,000 miles. I still wonder if I would be ahead to install an aftermarket pump so I get the better scavenging...

If the OP wants an aftermarket pump to improve flow and scavenging, why not? Sure won't hurt anything and Daytona offers a reasonably priced replacement.

You need to determine what caused your sumping issue first, it may not be an oil pump issue at all in which case an oil pump wouldn't resolve it.

If the top end was shot, it could cause the sumping due to ring leakage. Also, the scavenge passage has an O ring on it that can become hard and suck air. Make sure it's Viton. If the pump looks good, replace the wavy washer and install it..

If you rotate your crank using the connecting rods does it go through several rotations smoothly with out any sticky spots ?

Crank is good, I already checked for binding and run out.
