Hey everyone, Looking forward to starting my stage 2 project. Nearly stock 2020 Sport Glide w/107ci, 25,000mi being upgraded to Woods WM8-22X cam and alpha lifters. I would like to keep tappet covers in place, removing lifters via cam chest. Are magnetic tappet holders required for this?

 

Yes. You’ll need something to hold them up while you put the cam in. Why are you against removing the tappet covers? I would anyway to upgrade from plastic tappet guides to the aluminum ones.

 

Can you change the inner lifters by dropping them out the bottom?

 

I was seeking to avoid issues with the tappet cover bolts breaking. Sounds like some heat and working the fasteners slowly is the best path?

 

Yes. I did mine. No heat. Just slow pressure and no issues. I have seen people with them snap. Fuel Moto makes a kit just in case that happens on the tappet guide bolts. As far as the tappet cover bolts. Slow and easy. But I understand your apprehension.
