Default Experiment

Going to try Rokr Lokr`s for the usual reason.
The court of opinion seems 50 / 50 on being effective and my Indy friend say`s they never work
Doesn`t matter , It`s winter and I have a heated shop and time to kill

Point of the story is I find the rocker box bolts to be tedious to R&R
Ordered the 12pt screws in attachment as a 5/16ths flex "gear wrench" fits in the bolt recess on the box

When you pull the rocker shafts look for witness marks indicating the shaft has been rotating in the support boss. If witness marks, Rocker Lockers should make a difference; if no witness marks, likely no change. I used similar fastners on the rocker boxes; 12pt SS ARP.

Clarify.. Look for marks on the bolts that hold the rocker shafts in place..

BTW, Those bolts listed for the covers are Black Oxide coated.. Will probably rust.. If the washers are going to be used under the heads of the bolts, might be worthwhile to find something harder and thicker..

Thanks for the clarification Max; should have been clear where to look for witness marks.

Good points
I agree with looking at the bolts first
I hit the bolts with H temp paint and have had success using them in other areas with out issue
Jury is out on the washers as stock uses none

I've got black oxide allen bolts for the pulley bolts on my bobber. They are painted also...

I have found black oxide stainless steel bolts and washers (also from McMaster-Carr). I use them for Reaper's derby cover (1/4-20 x 5/8" socket head cap screws), sissyebar side plates and cushion, and primary inspection cover. They look great, and do not rust like regular black oxide coated bolts. Not sure if they're available in 12 pt ARP style, though.

Cheers!

They do work, in the sense that the ticking noise from the rocker shafts hitting the bolts will be eliminated.

There are however a lot of other parts making ticking noises in the Twin Cam engine, some of which tend to be significantly louder than said shaft to bolt interaction.

So in many cases the resulting reduction in perceived ticking noise level is not breathtaking.

FYI, I'm getting ready to put SE forged rocker arm supports on my twin cam and did a test fit of ARP 12 point SS bolts. The heads are too large to fit down into the recesses in the support.

What's wrong with using the SHCS that come with the supports? Were they missing?

At first I couldn't figure how to adapt a torque wrench to the socket heads to get to the ones on the rear cylinder. The engine is in the bike. Once I found the right tools for that, I gave up on the ARPs.
