Default High Oil Pressure?

What's up everyone. I just installed a Fueling Cam plate and oil pump, as well as Wood TW-555 on my 08' Street Glide. Runs and rides great!

When cruising, oil pressure on the gauge is pegged at 60 anything over 2000rpm.

I just want to make sure this is ok?

I know the pressure valve is set to 60psi on the plate from Fueling, so I'm sure it's bypassing, just want to make sure I'm not going to wipe anything out.

When at idle and hot it sits around 15psi.

Put a mechanical gauge on it to verify would be my first step.

oil pressure is determined by the engine's internal resistance and not the oil pump. that said, the more flow, the more it backs up and hence higher pressures. if the relief is set at 60, the you are probably right, it is up against the relief.
on a roller bearing engine not much to worry about but an insert engine can experience wash out. the hd needs volume more than pressure. here is something to think about, hd will pool oil in higher rpm and sustained throttle so more oil in the lower may not be productive. sometime a better mouse trap does not get more rats.

To much oil pressure can rob HP and put strain on the pump. I put a s&s pump with a baisley's spring and it pegged the gage. Starting seeing aluminum in the oil. So took it apart put harley spring in it and sanded the ID of the pump. All is well after couple oil changes now.

awesome thank you for the reply. I had a feeling it wasn't too much to worry about but I want to double check

Isn't the S&S pump adjustable out of the box?

The plate is adjustable which i don't have. Used a 07 up plate.

The baisley spring worked with SE upgrade and fueling pump with out making to much psi.
My 99 has had 4 pumps, yes I'm obsessed with oil pressure. The s&s is by far the best at hot idle. It also has the s&s piston jets

Why do you need high oil pressure on a roller bearing crank?

I have a 2000 fxdx that I rebuilt with 2001 RK cases, delkron cam plate and a fueling pump with about 40000 miles on it.. It's a high compression all bore 107. The cam plate was given to me by a friend and needed a little cleanup. I'd laped the pressure relief and added a spacer on a stock spring.. I also lapped the pump sides to set the side play on the rotors at 0.002" On the first start the oil pressure went past about 60 psi so I pulled the spacer and used a slightly looser relief valve. It still runs about 60 when the motor is cool. Get the oil temps over 200F and it'll drop to about 52 at anything above idle. I run a slightly lighter oil..

I'm not to concerned about the pressure being that high as long as the motor doesn't sump.
