When to rebuild 96Cu Engine??
Hi all,
Been a member for awhile, first time poster!! I'm looking at finally getting my first Harley!! Looking at 2008 up to a 2012 Street Glide!! And need some Info. Alot of people dis HD's! One guy today , while i was out for a ride, said I'll need to rebuild the engine around 25,000miles.
My Question is first is this TRUE?? and second, how deep do you have to go?? Do i have to machine the Crank and replace the Main Journals?? or just rebuild the top end??
I'd appreciate any info or advise on the 96Cu Engine, or on the 2008 to 2011 Street Glide models!!!
Thanks In Advance!!!

I'm not a fan of the cast crank 96" vs my forged crank 95", but I don't think you 'rebuild them' until you have to go into the bottom end.
I replaced stator/regulators at 32,000 and 53,000 miles, Heads and exhaust at 67,000 miles, and switched to gear drive cams at 81,000 miles.
When the time comes I'll replace the pistons and rings with .005" over and probably slap a fresh set of heads ( currently in the garage waiting to be freshened up,) on it and just keep riding it.
I don't think I've "rebuilt" the motor yet because I haven't needed to pull it out of the frame yet. Just been bolting on parts as needed basically.
I'm currently at 95,000 miles.
