I could not find what I was looking for. Thinking about swapping my 2008 Electra Glide Standard 96" with 130,xxx miles nothing has been done to the motor, for a 103". Any issues doing this, good idea, bad idea? opinions
My only suggestion is to compare the price of a 103" with the cost of rebuilding your old one, which can easily be turned into a 103/107, probably even bigger. If you prefer to stay with a stock spec engine H-D sell refurbished engines, complete with your current engine number, in exchange for your old one.
I'm thinking of doing the same thing, I have the same year, 2008 E.G. Classic with the stock 96, I have only changed the cams, it has 105,000 miles, thinking of getting a low mileage used 103, the only thing I know is the 103 uses compression releases, the 96 doesn't, so I'll either have to get the harness for those or wire them to the starter, and I'll have to make sure if I do buy a used low mileage 103 to get it from a dependable source and get proper documentation for it and carry that with me since the frame and engine will no longer match, where I live in Ga. I don't have to report or change anything to the state div. of driver services just for an engine swap, but I do want to have proper proof of purchase just in case. I have a local INDY mechanic who will do the swap and make sure everything's right.
I think you could have a better motor built then swapping a 103 platform. Then you could keep the original for later, I don't believe a number matching bike means anything until talking about a collectors piece.
Plenty of motor builders to rebuild yours or scratch built from aftermarket cases.

since you have ridden 130k miles without touching the motor, a stock used 103 will probably be your best bet, for cost and reliability. sure you can build a powerhouse, but I don't think that interests you... But there is a noticeable improvement in torque going from a 96 to 103.
I would suggest using a 103 HO engine if you can find one.
Not that long ago another member made basically the same swap and documented pretty well in the fourm.
As a point of interest he bought the engine as a take off from Killer Creek for something like $2000 then turned around and sold his old engine. I think he ended up with less than $1000 in the swap.

Any idea where I can find thread? I have found some new 103" takeoffs, just trying to find out what I have to change or replace to put it in my bike
