Cam upgrade stock engine
I would also consider contacting the best harley tuner in your area and ask his advise as well, after all, he will have seen a number of bikes doing exactly what you want to do. He can compare cams and give you data to make your choice. Whatever you do, get it final tuned on a dyno. I uded a TTS after my cam swap and got very close, but for the cost of the tune, my bike is now well rounded in performance. I don't think the curves are much more than what I did, but they are totally smooth, no flat spots, no decell pop, great mileage and I know that I don't have any more work to do. Build your motor this time with the best cams for the 96 and when you need a rebuild(100,00) do whatever you want then. Cheers.
I like your advice. Now I need more of it. I now have a set of jugs, pistons and cams off a 13 Road Glide with 600 miles on them. Should I use the cams? A local guy said they are the same cams as in my stock 96" motor. Now that I am going 103" what should I do for cams, pushrods and tuner?

Around town and an occasional day trip are sometimes 2 up. Vast majority is solo. Where do I want power ... I have been known to do some highway riding so passing power is important. I also like the idea of a good strong pull from a stop. is all that possible?

This is an intresting thread for sure, as I'm considreing Cams myself.
I hav a 2011 Ultra Limited, I do a combo of highway and city with some road trips of 2-300 mi. plus. I run stock intake with Rinehart 4" slip ons. Since the MoCo usually misses the mark on their power to weight ratios, the 103 is slightly better for solo riding, but still want a little more Tq at low end. IMO. The 103 still misses the mark for two up! That being said, my wife and I aren't exactly light weights and the 103 still misses the mark for two up! Cam Ideas and suggestions?? Stick wit the 48? or 57?
