I want to install a mild street cam into my stock '77 fxe for a little more zip off the line and would like to hear some opinions on which brands might be best for this application. I don't want to do any head work on the motor for this. I have an Andrews J grind in my '48 pan and it performs well but I have read some posts here and there that suggest that other brands might be better for one reason or another. What are advantages/ disadvantages with other brands, such as S&S , Sifton, etc, as compared with the Andrews? Or are they all pretty much the same as far as quality and reliability are concerned
in a 80" I like the leinweber L3S but you need head work -- L3S Intake: 35/59 274 0.485 Exhaust: 63/31 274 0.485 Overlap: 66 not much a good set of S&S springs its only a .485 lift -- its a low to mid range cam and a real stump puller - I ran one for 6 years and not adverse wear over stock - it is a ticky cam leinweber uses different numbers than Andrews its actually only a 241 duration--- the "J" isn't much different than a stock cam
I have put maybe 50 or 75 - A2 cams in shovels its an almost off idle pull better then most others and for goes the hi top end RPM most try and achieve when installing a cam
the leinweber is a great piece but it needs springs and top collars to fit in your heads not what your looking for But a great cam
we can install a A 2 in a restoration machine and get a stock idle and more power - who would not want that

I'm running it and love it... power in the complete range....
Less drivability issues as well....
the A-2 is a great choice - but... make sure you have those tappets replaced if the bodies are good (don't mix them up) replace the wheels - have the cam bearing replaced -- myself I like to have the rocker shaft end play addressed and the shafts and bushings looked at -- if going this far myself I would have the valves looked at - im a fan of ferrea valves the fo506 ( 20 Degree Super Flo. Dish Head. Black Nitride ) and the f0505 ( 25 Degree Flo. Dish Head. Black Nitride ) --- have the guides checked and replace the seals -- this is me - doesn't mean you have to do this..

This is because he lives 100 feet below the ocean and at times when it rains hard a very fast exit is required
John.... Is that actually the "new" name for the good old "2 Grind"??
That is what I like to run...
I had talked to john at Andrews when he still answered the phone years back, when the gas changed in a big way he re visited the A series street cams and developed the A2 its the best of them all - I know I was never a fan of Andrews cams but when crane fell apart I had no choice really - sure we can do cam numbers till your brain falls out - whats better then that - but most of the business TODAY is original pieces with small improvements and the A2 is a plus in any shovel with stock in mind

So... an "Improved" 2 grind????
I normally hate "new and Improved"
I'll search out another 2 Grind!!!
Tho My AB is working fine in an '84...
