Default Oil Pump Fail

99 Nightrain with 80 EVO engine and 5400 miles. Started the bike yesterday to go out and thought I heard a snap sound looked down and saw oil light was on. Shut off bike checked oil level and condition which was fine. Today I figured I'd gamble with the pressure switch cause it was only $8 and of course it didn't fix the problem. I pulled the oil pump and found on the inner side that touches the engine case that the gear that is on the pump shaft (not the shaft that comes out of the cone area) would not turn and there was hard plastic splinters in there. It scored the pump badly so I know that has to be replaced but does anyone have an idea where the plastic could have come from? Heres a pic of the pump housing damage

Well I pulled the nose cone and have identified the failure which is the breather gear. Good idea having a plastic gear mesh with metal!
