Where exactly is the oil coming from? If you have determined it is not a fitting or loose bolts, you will have to pull the nose cone to access the snap ring that holds the oil pump drive gear onto the oil pump driveshaft. There is a 1/2 moon key that holds the drive gear onto the shaft that needs to be removed. Remove the bolts that hold the oil pump onto the case and can remove. Make sure the shaft and gears move with the oil pump. There are some 1/2 moon keys that hold the oil pump gears onto the shafts. Make sure you have a flat surface where the oil pump bolts up to the case. I had a drive gear spin on the shaft one time when I had problems with a lifter going bad. One of the needle bearings from the roller on the lifter get into the oil pump and caused the gear to spin on the shaft. I was trying to get the oil pump removed and was using a punch to try and get the gear off. I missed the punch and hit the bottom of the case where the oil pump bolts up. Caused a little indentation on the case and had to file down and fill with a little JB Weld and file down smooth. Maybe someone had the pump off before you bought the bike and had something freaky like this happen to them. Good luck.

With care, you can remove and replace the oil pump without removing the cam cover.
remove the oil lines, and bolts holding the oil pump cover on, remove the snap ring holding the driven gear to the pump shaft, then the gear. remove the key, and then the upper bolts holding the pump housing to the crankcase. remove the housing. thats about as far as you will need to go if you are just replacing gaskets. Just remember not to push the pump shaft in to the crankcase, as you will displace the key on the oil pump drive gear. Once you get the hang of it you cane reseal a big twin oil pump in about 15 mins.

The way we do it in my shop is we take the front lifter block off - than with a piece is bent flat stock / we bent for the job / But its just a bend in the front < we hold the pump shaft in and install the clip on the other side

someone else might have a better idea But that is what we do -- johnjzjz
