Home Made Affordable Tools - Engine Stand.....
A Very Good friend is helping me out with a loaner motor till mine is totally rebuilt. I'm replacing the cases, balancing the crank and trying to repair the rocker geometry (maybe even another new cam... Lol....).. I've had way too many issues in the last year so whatever, anyways.... All he said was bring something to put it in when I come to pick it up. So I was thinking maybe I can make a custom pallet or engine stand. So I measured my Evo frame at the motor mounts and this is what I came up with.
The rear mount is 2" higher than the front mount (this is the exact difference between a 2x4 and 2x6) and bolt centers front to rear are 10 5/8” and are 3 1/2" wide. When I measured the 2x4 and 2x6 on the edge for the lag bolts (engine mount spacing), I made sure I moved them in far enough so the sprocket shaft would not interfere with the cross member.
So I figure I could make this out of wood. And guess what... I did... All I needed was two 2x4's one 18" (front mount) and one 20" (cross member) and a 2x6x18" (for the rear mount). 4 - 5/16x2" lag bolts, 4 washers and 4 wood screws 3" long.. this is what it looks like... The best thing is I didn't have to buy a single thing. I had all the materials laying around the shop.. I'll now tomorrow how well it works... If my measurements are correct, I don't see why it won't work...

I didn't have a case but thought the 3 1/2" of ground clearance would clear the bottom of the case.. I'll find out tomorrow... If not I'll shim it with 1/2" PVC pipe to something. Or I could screw more 2x4's to the bottom of it. It'll give me another 1 1/2"...

If you can weld (or know someone who can), this is another option.
