Howard Messner is a suspension guru who uses Ohlins components to custom build shocks tailored to Harleys and each individual customer. He also builds Ohlins cartridges for front forks and makes kits to adapt earlier bikes to the latest 49mm Harley forks. He does his suspension development using telemetry to record and compare real life performance of his products, as he develops them. And YES Harleys ride far better on top shelf suspension!

It sounds more like a suspension problem than a brake problem...

If the wheel isn't on the ground, the ABS will not know what to do.
An experienced, skilled, disciplined rider on a properly set up machine will stop faster than ABS every time.

I'd say the Ohlins is one of the best investments I've made on my bagger,
ride and handling, and I hardly ever scrape boards anymore, evidently the stock shocks were just staying compressed down in corners.

I should add that Ohlins are also available from other outlets, but Howard has his own recipes that he modifies them to!

Stock suspension on Harley's has always been horrible, way too soft for the weight of the bike.

Has Howard ever tried the CCE trees?

True, but there is no need to be worried! I had 13" rotors and 6-pot calipers up front for many years (see below) and am currently changing over to current Harley Brembos all round. Hydraulics spiced with a bit of common sense is all that is required!

If you call him, don't get butt hurt like I read on here some do, He'll educate you but expects you to do your homework and make your own decissions, no babysitting.

What kind of tired are you running? Maybe a softer rubber compound is what you need.

Also six piston calipers and a larger diameter rotor will allow you to stop the bike quicker and more effectively before reaching the lock up point.

If you want to get crazy, rotors that are the edge of the wheel, which is to say they are nearly the same diameter of the wheel will get the job done but aren't the prettiest things to look at.
