Default Fork Assembly Question

Is there some secret to compressing the spring so you can screw the cap back on?
So far I'm not having any luck.

Do you have the front wheel off of the ground? Did you change the length of the preload spacer? It can be a bitch sometimes.

If Amy can dismantle and rebuild dresser forks then any of us ought to be able to! (Scroll down for videos!)

When we put spacers in my tubes, we had to put a ratchet strap over the ratchet to hold everything down, and it still took 3 guys putting pressure on it to get the job done. It was a major PITA.

I checked that video previously, Amy kinda skips over that part.

Yes I've put in intiminators and racetech springs and spacers, so it is different.
The legs are out of the trees.

I find using an air ratchet makes quick work of the job. You can push down as needed and let the ratchet spin the cap until it catches.

If that is not available, two man job of pushing down and turning the ratchet.

Depending what you are using to hold onto the tubes, it might be easier to put them back on the bike first so they are not moving around on you.

I recently went through this, see this post:

I used a wood working clamp (linked a pic in the above post) and also protected everything with duct tape. I managed to get it all together without removing handle bars. Hopefully it helps. YD

I bought a palm ratchet for the next time I had to help someone on their bike.

Well not having any of those tools, I used some clamps, wooden V blocks, a gear clamp with some rubber to line it, and a hydraulic press. Worked pretty good.

You don't by any chance have a picture of what you rigged up to do this do you?
