Default 4" inch speakers

I pulled the paper stock speakers in my fairing and replaced them with some Autozone speakers. They start to distort when the volume gets loud enough so you can actually hear it on the highway. They work about as good as the paper speakers I pulled out. I would really like to find some decent 4" inch speakers that are not real expensive and will mount in the stock holes. Any suggestions?

Biketronics has a very reputable product line. Don't skimp on speakers, you really do get what you pay for. Especially if you like me and only have the (2) 4" speakers, and that's it. Check out the Audio Tech forum here on this site for much more info. I am also in the process of installing a new Biketronics audio system in mine. I can say I was surprised to see (2) Pioneer 4" speakers in there already. They really didn't sound too bad at all. I mainly wanted to get rid of the tape deck and upgrade the stereo. So I opted for the whole package they offered, At a cost of $500 I may add. Hope it's worth it. I also have a 2 channel amp on the shelf I am going to use as well.

Just seen how many posts you have, and of course you already knew about the audio forum. My bad!

Cheap speakers are not the only source of distortion. You also need power for clean loud sound.

I also found that with the taller windshield I put on I was out of the wind buffeting zone and could hear the tunes much better. I went a little extreme last year and bought a 15" Memphis shades windshield. While it is awesome for cold weather, it's not so great when it's raining I found. But who ike to ride in the rain anyways huh? So I compromised this year and bought a 13" LRS curved shield for $50 (1/2 price winter sale) I am going to try. Hoping I can just see over it when needed. Something else to think about. Still going to keep the 15" shield so I can use what I want when I want.

I trashed the non-functional unit and put in a 400w Alpine bluetooth head unit, combined with 4" Kicker urathane cone speakers with integrated tweeters I have about $190 bucks in the system and it sounds just as good as my buddys Rushmore.

I have the biketronics but honestly for kicks and grins I put a set of my friends lightning audio 4"speakers in to compare and there wasn't much difference at all. The lightning audios were like half the price.

Great suggestions here. I have a 200 watt system now. It's the speakers that start to fall apart in the upper volume range. The volume settings go from 0 to 40. It's at about 35 - 36 where thing start getting rough, which is the volume where I acn actually hear anything out on the interstate.
