Correct Base Gasket?

Default Correct Base Gasket?

I need to replace my base gaskets on my '90 FXSTC, since the rear is LEAKING oil.

I've been reading that the Genuine James set is the way to go with the Hayden Oil Fix. The problem is, I have no idea which is the right James kit for a stock build to just replace the originals.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Not exactley sure on the part number but last time I was at Harley dealer I just asked for the james base gasket.
Pretty sure its this part number JGI-16777-94 .

By the way I've never used the Hayden fix , only used the james metal silicone base gaskets with no weeping issues. I've found best practice is to let the motor warm up then go and also make sure motor is breathing freely from breather line and also change oil and oil filter ( proper harley or WIX filter) regularly.

And don't put in synthetic oil when finished with it.

Hey krazy, if you're running synthetic oil now ,swapping to real oil MAY actually slow or stop that leak.
20/50 con Valvoline all the way...

Get the one with a 3 1/2" bore and a 45 thousandths head gasket.

You don't need the Hayden oil fix.

As mentioned above if you're running synthetic then switch to dino oil and that might solve your problem.

FWIW I prefer Cometic gaskets but that is just me.

Thanks everyone, the thickness is what I really wasn't sure about.

It's only had dino oil in it and really didn't start to leak until after a fresh oil change,

Now it's been sitting for almost 2 months and its still weeping. I would have thought that all the oil would have drained back by now.

FWIW, it's the primary side of the rear jug in that back corner.

If it is just weeping I wouldn't worry about it until winter.
It won't hurt anything.

When you do replace the top end gaskets that is a good time for a cam and cam bearing swap!!!!

It's only weeping when it's sitting. It's a good leak when running. It' leaks all over the floor after it has been ran.
