Not yet. It really doesn't matter, as long as it's fixed.

I asked a maintenance man at work which he preferred as he has about 9 harleys, old shovels, iron heads and some evo's.

He wanted me to use this:

Says he's used it and it works great. Not so sure I'd ever buy anything from him now...

Doesn't matter how long you warm it up for once it's started leaking....the paper gaskets die with age, go brittle and fall apart.

Just got my '93 Fatboy running today (95K+ miles) after basically sitting in the garage for five years. It also has a few leaks (even has leak by base gasket) I now have to deal with (I installed James base gaskets years ago).
I've typically run Mobil-1 15W-50 synthetic in it. Don't want to start an oil thread, but why are people saying not to run synthetic in these motors?

Syn will clean out and find leaks in older engines that already existed, that the dino oil couldn't penetrate.

I happen to run syn in all my evos, a sporty, a couple 80", and the 111", and they're all bone dry.

This is the poison I've been running.

In an interesting addition synthetic says it will make the motor run cooler than dino oil.
That claim is true if you don't run an oil cooler but not if you do run an oil cooler.
At least that is my personal experience.

Read some oil threads in the evo section for more details if curious.

I never saw a difference in temp either, if there is, it's minimal.
