Default Crain or Dynatek

A friend of mine has a Crane HI 4 ignition in his bike now.
I think it is going bad because every time the bike warms up it starts running like ****.
I'm gonna go get it tomorrow and start real testing to see if I can confirm or deny that it is the ignition module.

What is the difference between the Crane HI 4 and the HI 4N?
I'm thinking about going back with a Dynatek 2000i.
What do y'all recommend for a replacement?

Stop by a Radio Shack or Altex and get some freeze spray. 10 second diagnosis.

Or the Ultima clone of the Dyna. Just don't use their coil.

Those crane ignitions were real popular for starting threads on "how come I have no spark?"

He gets spark when the bike is cold.
I don't know if he does or not when it is hot.
All I know right now is that he says it runs like **** when the bike is hot.

1st ignition I put in the Lowrider, 5yrs ago was a Crane. 3 months later I replaced it with a Dyna for this very reason. Use a Dyna or the Ultima knockoff.
Been running great, & no problems
Have friends running Daytona Twin Tec & swear by em. I have no experience with the brand, but wouldn't be afraid to use it.

Ride Safe,
Harold

The first Crane HI 4's were notorious for dropping one cylinder when they warmed up...they solved the problem and the replacement I got has lasted for over 10 years...S&S bought them out, and the ignition they make now is nothing like the old one they used to make...no experience with it.

I hope you're right Tom! Back when we ran a shop, we warranteed more Cranes that I can keep count of. Fortunately Crane stood behind every one of them.

For me, the simple Dyna S is my choice.
