Anyone using a solid sprocket instead of the compensator on their EVO?

I put one on my Wide Glide for a while. Didn't care for the feel. It was more responsive, but there was no dampening of the engine pulses through the driveline.. Anything less than 61 or so in 5th was kind of harsh.. If your aggressive and run higher RPM, I think you'll like it.. In fact, I might be willing to part with this one for a reasonable price, I'm pretty sure its still on the shelf.

You really don't want to do that! There is a jolly good reason that singles and twins have had them for many decades. Why do you ask?!

Graham is right, they really are for performance/race only. Thats when I learned that these engines prefer to live above 3k rpm. Just didnt fit my driving style..

Ran nothing but solid sprockets on my shovel since 1978. Pretty hard on the primary chains and you can tell the difference.

If you're just thinking of cheaping out and not using one, I think you'll be back in there replacing it pretty quickly..

What everybody said. There's a reason the MoCo uses them. I tried it-went back.

Yea going direct like that could be one of the factors that led to the shearing of my crank pin....

I think what John was talking about was that heat treating metal too much to strengthen will make it more brittle...
