Oh Great Guru's
Ok, The topic is not about an Evo but is legitimate cause I know a lot of you out there have been around longer than me. I'm looking for a new ride. I'm not gonna replace my Evo, that will stay with me for a long time....
A little history first, I've always rode. Since the age of 6 it started with Mini bikes and then went to dirt bikes like most of you out there.... Once into my Teen years a friend of mine "Big Mike" (4 years older than I) had a 72 SuperGlide and I'll never forget the day he let me take it down the street. What a beautiful shovel. The sound the look, man I was only fifteen and I think I creamed my jeans as I headed down the street. I've always wanted to own a SuperGlide and someday I will....
On Saturday the 12th I'm going on a little trip to look at 82 SuperGlide II. Its all original with low mileage for it's age. I am very excited about the bike. What I'm looking for is if any of you like Doc, Spanners even johnjz can give me some insight (pro's and con's) and what to look for in an older Harley, specifically the 82 Shovel SuperGlide. I believe the 82 is the first year that Harley Davidson started to manufacture bikes after purchasing the company back from AMF. I would appreciate any info... Thanx all......

That's a nice looking shovel.
Check it like you would an Evo, because the bottom end is essentially the same. Now, that FXR Shovel is a little rare to find, and FXR lovers would love to have one with a Shovel engine.
If the compression is good, runs nice, not smoking, then you have yourself a nice bike. There's going to be some oil leaks, but unless it's a pool, don't worry about it. They will all need maintenance.
If the price is right, don't let this one go.

FXR usually means highly suspect wiring for some reason but if the loom looks unmolested and everything works it should be good to go.
Make sure oil flow is good and it doesn't leak or rattle more than it should and then ride it and see how it feels.
Shovels don't vibrate as much as you would think but it will still be more than your Evo.
