Default Fxr primary

I have 1985 fxr with splined main shaft. Can I still use inner and outer primary cover when converting to a 1990 clutch set up?

If you already have the tranny with a splined main shaft then you already have the newer clutch hub.

The tranny is a 1985 that had a tapered keyed shaft. I did a total rebuild to the tranny and swapped the tapered shaft to a splined shaft. I just wanted to make sure that I can use the same inner primary with the newer clutch basket and hub. Or do I need to use a 1990 inner primary.

In that case I would go to the newer inner primary so you can use the updated starter.

Think he has to as the ring gear offset is different between the old style clutch and the splined one isn't it ? Can't remember off the top of my head.

Don't know about the "offset"...but the tooth count is defiantly different.

The ring gear on any splined tooth clutch won't mesh with any pre 89 starter...and there are different newer ring gears with 66, 84, and 102 teeth.

When ever you start changing primary stuff...it usually a "domino effect" and you need to use everything from the same range of years.
