Instead of buying a custom 6-speed Tranny i wish to just cheaply Buy a 2 belt Teeth Bigger OD Front Pully.
I think I know a Cheap remedy to your gearing issues/Thread. (i als replied the the 6 speed transmission old post today.
My-The stock 1996 FXSTC softail EVO 5 speed Transmissions are better/stronger than the HD & Aftmkt 6 speed transmissions.
Why should I buy a Baker $5k-$5000 6-speed when i can gear up my front Pully by 2 teeth and get a better MPG-Cruising range for $200 or so?????

I love my 5-Speed, so i want to keep the 5-speed and i just want to replace my front stock HD Pully Only by an aftermarket 2 Teeth bigger pully, and wonder if anybody here has done this?? I am worried the Belt will rub against the metal beltguards with the bigger-2 teeth OD aftmkt front Pully??

Note: I heard I can buy a slightly longer Belt!!! to help with my project.
I really Dont want to remove my metal HD 2 Beltguards to do this proj as i Lov them.
????Does anybody know if the Stock OEM metal Belt-Guards will Rub on the Belt with this 2-Teeth front aftmkt Pully Modification-Taller overall Gearing Upgrade?????????
Has anybody here of Forum done this EVO front Pully 2 Teeth bigger Mod without rubber-Belt/metal-Beltguards rubbing-conflict problems?????

There, I fixed it for ya!

Yes you can buy a larger pulley, for which you will need a 2 tooth longer belt. The pulley is only slightly larger in diameter than the stock one and I have never heard of anyone having problems doing this, your guards should be fine. You will be following in the footsteps of many others when doing this! You will need to dismantle the entire primary and swingarm, to change belts. In my experience your stock belt won't work. If you don't have one, now is the time to buy the genuine FSM.

 

Also-
If you have not done so, rebuild your swing arm too (if you have one )
Install a 3rd link of some brand you will be a happy person with no wobbles ....
Take pix as you go !

 

 

 

There are many options for swing arm rebuilds and I am not here to tell what is best.
I do mine every 5 years as that is when the level starts to go south.
Last time I used HD stuff, next round it will be aftermarket electrometric stuff.
I would not convert to bones on bones steel brass bushings as it would ruin the less vibration concept i would think

btw, i had Race-tach put the Gold emulator Valve in the front Forks (works Grt!!!) & in future i will buy Race-Tech's rear Softail Shock (w/adjustments for 1 up riding),
but i never heard the Solid HD swingarm could be made any Better-Upgraded w/ 3rd link?? Unless u r just "pulling my leg"/Joking?? cuz Im not a HD techy like many of you Gurus LOL

I have never heard of Softail Swingarms needing anything, but i will ask my local HOGSHOP Guru.
Maybe your Hog swingarm is problematic to wear???
