something missing
I have inherited a 1992 Harley Davidson Electra Glide sport and noticed the oil tank was completly empty i filled it up , charged the battery and when i cranked it over there is a hose running from left of engine to right with a chrome cap and nothing on the end of it just blowing oil out . what is supposed to be there ?
On older bikes, the oil can leak from the oil tank to the crankcase. When you started it, the oil in the crankcase was pumped in to the oil tank. Since the oil tank was just filled it had no where to go, so it blows out the vent. You'll probably have to pull some more out of the tank to get to the proper level .

...and we'll help you out. We'll probably have a few questions. You'll also find that we think much more clearly with a few photos!

You made the same mistake as every other person who does not know the oil systems on these bikes. Including me lol.
You probably over filled it by the amount you added. I would drain it out and start over.

Just a guess but isn't that year evo crankcase vented? So maybe that's supposed to have a breather filter on it? But it still shouldn't be leaking oil out of it,so must be something is plugged or stuck open somewhere on the oiling system. Another guess but isn't there also a timing gear for the crankcase vent? Maybe thats not working...definitly sounds like something is just not right and the bike has probably been sitting too? Someone with real answers will be here soon to help you out...lol.
