Did I do something wrong?
I have an '06 with the 88 Cuin motor and an '08 with the 96 Cuin motor and once they are drained and filter is changed I still have oil in the motor (about a quart). I end up only putting about 3 quarts a couple of buddies are using oil scavengers to remove the extra old oil in the motor. I am actually thinking of using this on my bikes soon as a way to replace all of the oil. Below is a video of it being used.

Are you you guys really going that over due on oil changes, that you are worried about that last quart of oil? When you are running it with the scavenger, is any oil making it to the engine? Just because the oil is black doesn’t mean it’s dirty or broken down, color is no indication of oil condition. Use a good quality oil and change it regularly, don’t wast your time or money on any extra gimmicks. The only time I see this as a good idea would be after a major engine failure, but if you really want to get rid of all the old oil, buy double the oil and filters. Change the oil and filter, run it up to temp and then change them again. At least that way your not pumping oil into a container instead of the engine, potentially causing more harm then good.
Promoters of these scavengers always say there is a quart of oil left in the motor...in tearing down dozens of Harley motors...never been able to find it...couple ozs maybe...
No Softail ever made holds 4 quarts...
Put the 4th quart back on the shelf, a Softail only holds about 2-1/2 quarts in the tank.
Not saying that there is a quart of old oil left in the motor but it takes that much mixing with what oil is left to push it all out.
Put two drops of blue food coloring in a glass of water...the whole glass turns blue...that is all you are seeing...marketing gimmick...not going to add any life to your motor...
Why don't you do the same thing to your car? Many cars these days have motors that cost more than the going price for an EVO...

I think you and I are saying the same thing just different ways.

But how does it make you feel that you are running the engine dry, while the “dirty” oil is being drained into a bucket?
A properly designed scavenge system does not run an oil system dry (although I believe they do nothing but make some people feel like they are doing something extra for their bike).
