A properly designed scavenge system does not run an oil system dry (although I believe they do nothing but make some people feel like they are doing something extra for their bike).
Harley’s only have what 5psi oil pressure at idle, i could very well be wrong but, I find it hard to believe there’s much if any oil making it to the rest of the engine.

I'm not running it dry. I put new oil in the tank, run the motor until the new oil forces out the old oil in the case then shut it down and top off the the tank to the proper level.

Yes I understand what the procedure is but, how is the engine getting oil, when the oil pump is being used to flush the old oil out. Like I said earlier, I could be wrong but, I can’t see the engine getting much, if any, oil while the scavenger is being used. That’s what I meant when I said running your engine dry. I really think it’s doing more harm then good.

By pumping in new oil from the oil tank.
What happens is the oil pump pumps in new oil into the case it mixes with the old oil that was left in the case after the oil change.
That's why it takes about a quart of new oil to get out the few oz of oil oil that was left in the case.

Like I said, it makes me feel better to think that I'm getting all the crap oil out of the motor. Will it help me, who knows? Think of it as dressing up like theMchelin Man wearing all kinds of safety gear on 90° days and believing that it will save me if I get run over by a dump truck!!

My flhtcu fsm says 4qt but I only add 3 when I change oil. HD SAE 60 has it running slick as butter.
