It will NEVER have a clean title, to me it seems easier to replace the frame with a "known good" piece rather than cutting and replacing pieces. Just for the sake of having matching numbers on a 32-33 year old bike that has no significance and is dime a dozen. I might be wrong but I don't see the downside to just replacing the frame on a bike with a salvage title anyhow...JMO.

As for resale...I'll be dead so I don't care....lol.

Hey, I'm with ya on the title status and resale value. I was just thinking it may cut down on DMV hassle.

I'd fix what you have. Maybe use parts from the other frame if I had to, or just fab it up from scratch.

But... The question was.... "what would you do"
I would graft the "good" part from my Spare frame... onto the Compromised but Legal Frame... and be done..
Salvage is still a Harley... Special Construction is ???? Not.
I'm gonna leave my kids Nice Stuff!!!

All good points, I need to talk to Dr. Johns tomorrow and see what it would cost to do a "back-half"...I do already have a title on this frame. So many different ways to go......

Talked to Dr. Johns and it will be the same amount to fix it as to replace the back-half...$600-$800. I'm not sure that I care if it has an "HD" VIN or not...seems to me that since it already has a salvaged title the "value" of it vs a state issued VIN is minimal if at all.

No matter how it's titled it will always be a Harley with Harley parts and I don't buy things to provide "nice stuff" to anyone after I die. Like I said I'm dead....I won't care, and if they do...they didn't deserve it in the first place.

Each their own...always... But I prefer my Harley to have a Harley Title... Not generic... Besides most of my **** is Historic Plated!! and insured... Not gonna do that with a "new" titled whatever!!!

Admit it... you really didn't wanna know what I would do.... now didja...

hey your opinion is yours...it doesn't have to match with mine (was seeing what other people thought). I don't own or ride "historic" vehicles and never will, that just explains your "what would you do". I'm not so picky...especially with a wreck recovery that was salvaged...the gleem is long gone on this HD. So making it "OEM" has no value beyond preference, money wise it's a wash and will never be worth anything more than a salvaged 32 year old Evo...which is next to nothing when you can buy a nice clean titled Evo for 3-4 grand around here. So it probably will be worth about what I'll have into it. So fixing the stuff that's wrong with it is examined from every angle to see what the most cost effective, and best way to go about it.

Wheewww, what an exercise this has been. Since she'll be coming down to bare frame for any way to fix her, I've decided to just fix the frame she has. I just can't bring myself to use another frame without it being confirmed straight, and they won't guaranty that. I can do the measuring and determine if it's pretty straight (after I buy it), but the only way to know is to have it checked and adjusted...that's $500. From what I've been able to find out and was told (I've talked to a ton of MC friends and "builders"), a 32 year old frame won't be true and probably wasn't from the Moco to start with. Since it' going to cost $600-$800 to fix and true my existing frame, it's cheaper in the long run (and less of a DMV hassle) to just use the original frame...repaired. The chances of it rusting out ever again will be slim cause I'll add drains and keep up on keeping it clean and clear

Thanks to all for their thoughts on the subject....sometimes you get caught up in the little details and chase ur tail..
