Shouldn't be an Issue... Didn't you say the motor was all apart? So you should be able to ID everything easily accept for the combustion chambers in the heads.. If you can post a pic if them I can let you know if someone had them surfaced...

So both of those gaskets came off of one cylinder base The one doesn't even look used.. As for the cylinder heads yeah they're stock and no it doesn't look like they've been milled so you're good to go.. What I would do though while you got it all apart I'd mock up each cylinder back onto the block and see where your piston sit's in the cylinders maybe we can figure out why there was two gaskets but do it with nothing no gaskets put the cylinders back on and measure how far your pistons are in the hole, or possibly even above the cylinder deck.. If you take four pieces of 3/4-in PVC pipe 1-in long put them on the studs and then use the head bolts torque the cylinder down to get an accurate reading of the piston in the hole. 10 - 15 foot lbs should do it..

Yup... both gaskets were on one base. He had it torn down and put back together but hadn't torqued anything down. given that the head gaskets didn't look all that great, my buddy and I figured we ought to check the base gaskets. That's when we found the two gaskets on each base. couldn't think of why he would of done that but figured I'd ask here and see if anyone had any ideas.

I will mock it up to check the deck height/clearance and see if that was a concern... but hell, maybe he had seeping before and thought this would be good insurance against it? FIIK!
