Ignition Timing
I have a stock 1998 Softail heritage. I checked the timing as per the manual and it is set properly at the 2 dots. This is 20deg BTDC. I have also read that all US bikes should run at the single dot. 35deg BTDC. The manual does say that the factory spec for 1995 and earlier Evo’ is the 35deg mark. Can someone please clarify this for me? Just wondering if this is one of the reasons I can’t seem to get over 39 MPG. It dose run well and I am running an HSR 42 that is setup lean. 20 idle jet, 98 needle, and a small pump nozzle.

Not sure if I was clear on my last post. With your timing light you should have 35* when the TDC mark is in the window with the voes grounded or active. You will need a dial back timing light to set it this way..
