I am trying to wrap my head around the timing of the Evo. I have been reading TD’s build and also read about setting the timing at 2500 rpm for the full 35 degree advancement. I set mine by the HD manual rpm which is lower. So, do I set the idle at 2500 and adjust to get the mark in the center of the hole at this rpm? If I understand it correctly by setting the timing at the manual’s rpm I am not setting the timing at full advance and 35 degrees. Is this correct? thanks
you need to disconnect the Voes in some cases to set the timing - a stock ignition is junk and lessens the engine life < having said that will bring out the 200000 mile stock ignition get your panties in a bunch - crowd
My reason --- the fuel we had when the first evo came along was still leaded and the ignition was programed for regular fuel ( they never updated it form then ) soo today we dont have that fuel and the units we have today in the aftermarket are so much better in adjustablity -- you can tune out many issues the stock unit is not able to at all -- johnjzjz
in my shop i sell the ultima i like the way the bike starts with it and i am always able to tune any issue out with it
i hear it is this or that copy -- BUT -- no other ignition in any bike that comes in the shop starts the bike as fast as the ultima - throw the coil away and buy a dyna or accell
we always use new wires with the new ignition to eliminate an issue that was unintended
plugs i have used everything that is made today and some that are gone for different reasons
i like autolite plugs for stock or near stock bikes - iridium sparkplugs work very well and do so for a very long time both the USA and japan made stuff
the Ultima ignition is able to work as a duel fire ignition or a single fire ignition
that coil is correct for a duel fire ignition and it has the correct Ohms - 3.0
OEM ignition is duel fire - yes advantages in single fire - some will say they dont feel any
we spent and still spend lots of shop time and money on dynos to confirm what does and what does not work - i wont say anything else about that as it only matters to who is actually doing the analysis
