Default Trouble getting neutral.

Within the last month or so I've been having more and more trouble finding neutral on my 1993 FLSTC 5 speed with 61,000 miles. Currently I can hit it on the first attempt about one out of ten times. The others require at least two or more tries. WTF? I've tried adjusting the cable, the clutch rod and the shifter rod several times and nothing works. What else can I try?

61,000 miles. Need more info. Stock clutch? Did you change the primary and or trans fluids? What's your riding style? How much free play have you been running at the clutch lever?

Good chance the rivets are coming loose in the 90-97 dampening plate if it is still in the clutch pack.

Adjust clutch and cable, make sure primary lube level is not high.

Make sure the primary chain is adjusted correctly, not too tight...

Make sure the shift pawl adjustment is correct.

Remove the right side cover, inspect the throwout bearing.

If you want to go deeper, disassemble the clutch and check the condition of the plates and discs, make sure they are flat, make sure the area of the disks and plates that ride in the hub and outer shell are not damaged.

Check slots in clutch hub and outer shell, make sure they are smooth.

And when you are sure all this stuff is good....

Don`t expect miracles...

make sure you dont have excessive play in shift linkage and shifter arm were it bolts on shifter shaft on transmission, or you could have a shift drum problem

Not on a '93 EVO. If everything's working right they can be the easiest and sweetest shifting there is.
