this would be the first thing I would check. My 97 started to get hard to shift, then would barely shift. Sure enough the spring plate lost it rivets. I replaced it with the HD police clutch pack (no spring plate) works fine now

Hey Man:

If this is a new issue, you may consider looking at your clutch plates and (as 1997 bagger suggested), make sure that riveted spring plate hasn`t failed, it can make a mess.

I tried adjusting my clutch again. This time I ran the clutch rod until stop then in 1/4 turn more to let oil drain off. After about a 1/2 hour I screwed it out then back in until I felt it stop. Then I turned it back out 1/4 turn and lock it down. Adjusted my cable and badda-bing I'm getting Neutral a lot easier. I'll run it like that for awhile and if I feel it necessary I'll adjust it again and back out the rod to about 1/3 of a turn.
