Default Petcock thread sealant

The service manual calls for anti-seize with Teflon on the threads, I can’t find any locally...
I have anti-seize, plumbers pipe dope, plumbers grease with Teflon and Teflon tape. Would any of these work, or is there something else that might do the job?

I used tape. So far, so good.

All the '99 FLSTs were carbed right? I've not touched one that late year model but doesn't it have the nut with r/h and l/h threads that simply draws the petcock and tank together like all the rest of them? They only need the round flat gasket and the screen. Only thing the threads need is some light lube, gasket seals the flat surface of the petcock and tank outlet.

He’s right. I used a new gasket plus tape because I’m like that...

You’re right the stem on the petcock has the r/h l/h threads... the manual says to use Loctite w/ Teflon thread seal then screw the r/h onto the tank only two threads, then thread the l/h onto the petcock body two threads.

I have had my El Cheapo petcock off to clean the screen a couple of times. Threads dry, nylon/plastic washer has sealed the ends of where the tank threads and pet **** threads meet.

Went back and looked in a FSM, sure enough they call for that procedure. Ha, learn something everyday!

I never used anything but some light oil on the threads to make it easier to turn the nut if it was funky and washer on the end, never had one leak... or come loose.

I find I have better luck with thread sealant than I do with teflon tape.
