Came up with code 56, cam or crankshaft position sensor, popped open nosecone. Replaced mine with this one from Harley dealer...looks like newer version, not the origin tan goo one. Looks like a little blue sticky stuff starting to ooze.
Have not checked crank sensor connection near back yet, but plan to do so.
Does this look bad enough to warrant a replacement? If so, I would plan to go with the MC-SP-A3, not another factory one. Or is there an updated Standard Products version? Would love to go with a different (expensive) module like a lot of you guys run, but the bucks ain't there for a new one of that type.
Still starts/ runs like a dream all day long. Had this code once before and it went away after clearing about 5 or 6 months ago. Or should I just let her sit and save up for a "real
" ignition module?
About 7500 on replaced module 56.5k on original engine. Like I said, she runs damn good. Thanks, guys. Ken
That's not your ignition module. That's your cam position sensor and yes it ought to be replaced. Buy either the standard motor products one or the HD one; whatever blows your skirt up. The HD one includes a shut off that kills the motor if the bike falls over.

Thanks, Carl. Yeah, CPS. It was Shiner Bock night at the bar in Jefferson, ton of bikes there for a good band, so I had 1 ( or 2 or 3) over my limit. Ride safe. If my trike falls over, motor running will be the least of my problems! Ken
