It's only an 80"er.. Head pipe is 1-3/4" that balloons out to 2-1/4" Obsolete Hooker Long Shots. They sound great. But sound is not power.

But this is my cruiser anyhow..

Behind the heat shields those hookers might be three step.. if so you have a great performance pipe.. and that length will help compensate for the large diameter and small motor.

Interesting...I have a set here...didn't give them a Thought, as I feel the first "step" should be Longer... but... I may try those on my Newest Sidecar incarnation!!
If they help the Low End... which...my gut says No...

“Tuned” all exhaust pipes are better. By tuned I mean the length and diameter are “tuned” cut, reduced, lengthened… to help your motor make more power. It also can fine tune or actually enhance the power band you’ve created with the parts you’ve chosen. I would guess right off the bat if your total length is between 34-36” long and it’s 3 step it’s an improvement over a regular 1 3/4 open drags. I also would bet your top end is better than a 2 into1 pipe. The bottom is gonna really depend on the compression and gearing wether the three step are as good as a 2 into 1… at the bottom.

Stepped headers are a great compromise between Honda sounding 2 into 1’s and open drags.. but let’s be clear, if your just like stage 1 or 2.. the stock pipe is probably best give or take the baffle length. If it’s stroked, or serious compression over 10:1 the steps will do a lot more for you than regular drags and not kill your top end like 2 into 1’s.

For the dyno snobs out there… I base this statement on mph at the end of the traps. 2 into 1 are more of a top end compromise than 2 into 2, than cult members of 2 into 1 want to believe.

Another good way to skin the cat for a very good street/strip bike is factory headers with vary large free flowing mufflers. Cycle Shack, Screaming Eagle.. they make very good power.

Agree accross the board..I too use 1/4 mile trap speed as my Dyno...can't lie..
Our Dragbikes All wear Home Brewed Pipes... Unless Stock by Rule!
Back when I was Too crippled up to do anything...I read/studied a book called "scientific design of intake and exhaust systems" by Smith and Morrison..some great stuff...and Yes, I gained at the Track.
