Default Inner Primary - Bolts

97 WG: Did a small search and am trying to figure out where the large and small bolts go.

Attached picture below - 4 holes to the left and 3 to the right.

Put the inner primary cover in place, push all the bolts into the holes but don`t thread them in yet.

They will all have the same space between the bolt head and the inner cover when they are in the right position.

Or use the parts manual:

Link to parts manual.

Heads up:

At least on my 94, one of those long bolts for on the trans is just a 1/4 or 1/2 inch shorter than the other. I wish I remembered what spot that one was located, but I think a dry fit based on Dan89FLSTC suggestion is a good idea. Also looking up the part numbers to each bolt then googling that part number is an even better idea. I would hate to see you put a bolt that is too long in a hole that is not machined to receive it. Thats when aluminum parts start to break.

Maybe your 97 does not have that one shorter bolt, but worth a look.

Short ones go in the front (engine). The long ones go into the transmission.
It had an aftermarket inner before, so it's possible some of the bolts you took out are incorrect so measure them.
4 - 5/16-18 x 1 1/2
3 - 5/16-18 x 3

Thanks. That was my guess and I put them in that was without the inner primary on. I have a 95 Dyna inner primary now, so I'll test fit first before I start using caulk on the bolt threads.

YW.

With the '95 inner, the 2 front bolts (external) are 1 7/8" long. The part # is 4068A You'll never find that length in a typical hardware but 3" should work. The other 5 bolts are lengths I listed earlier.

Be sure to use a new o-ring on the engine no matter how good the old one looks. Ask texashillcountry how I (we) know.

Don't forget to put a round of rtv sealer near the head of the bolts after you slide the tabs lock on.
