I was going over my springer yesterday, just checking things out, and was curious how the correct or easiest way to torque the large rocker nut was. I did a you tube search and it shows a guy going through things and I noticed that the springer that he was working with has the big nut on the outside where mine is on the inside. This is my third springer of the 80-90's vintage and they all have the big nut on the inside. Having the nut on the outside certainly looks like it would be easier to get that nut torqued. Is that why they changed it?
My 95 service manual specifically states that the threaded piece "16" goes on the inside. It also doesn't differentiate between FX or FL. My 95 FXSTS has everything on the inside with plenty of room for the brake rotor.
