Default Springer Rockers

Any trick to torquing the rockers. I find it pretty much impossible to maintain the 25-35 in lbs. on the bearing retainer while putting 100 ft lbs. on the jam nut.
tried it several times even having someone hold the hex while I use the crowfoot, as much as I don't want it to bring it to Harley for service, I might have no other choice.

Not sure I have a whole lot to add to this, but I'm subscribing as I'll be doing this down the road shortly.

They make a socket for this. Still I have my son help me. I also use a 1” drive torque wrench that has a 24” handle.
Forgot to add the open face of the socket does not need any bevel. It needs to be flat to help grab the thin nut they use there.

how can you use a socket to hold the jam nut when you have to have a 1/2 allen to hold the bearing retainer while you tighten the jam nut?

Couldn't you use a dog bone torque adapter on the jam nut, while holding the bearing retainer with the hex....?

They shouldn't slip off like a crows foot.... and at right angles (90°) to the torque wrench, they don't need any calculations to adjust the torque settings...

it's not a matter of the crows foot slipping off, haven't had this problem. it's trying to hold that hex even with help, and setting the low-end torque of 25 in lbs. that hex moving 1/32 of an inch sets it way past the high value of 35 in lbs. Monday I'll contact Harley to find out how critical the settings are on that rocker that it maintain the 25-35 in lbs. I also try setting the torque initially an around 10 in lbs. that way if it moves slightly, it should put it in the 25-35 range.

ok problem solved. Got one side 25 in lbs. the other 28 in lbs. turns out you probably shouldn't use a 1/2-inch ratchet to hold the hex, as soon as I switch over to a breaker bar it worked fine.
