98 Heritage/ 25,000 miles: I was getting a clunk too, changed the fork oil when I did the 25,000 maintenance, clunk is gone, bike handling feels better too. Since the book says to do it anyway, might as well give it a try before messing with the neck.

Screaming Eagle heavy works real good as would any quality brand with the same viscosity.

possibly may also be a broken front isolator (motor mount).

That's what mine turned out to be. Replaced and clunk is gone.

In my case I had to replace the fork springs. Took care of the clunk.

I've had the same noise for years, will try that extra fluid in the tubes. Tried everything else mentioned here, nothing seemed to help. Kinda nice to know it's fairly common tho.

can you see the broken mount? replaced fork oil and clunk is still there. I have examined the frount lower mount and can not see any cracks or breaks.
