You know, I'm not sure.... I know what you mean, your description makes sense. But in my instance, I'm not completely certain that is where my problem comes from. I dont believe my noise changed at all. I do know (you saw the pics) that they did a decent amount of work to my heads. If that were the problem in my case, the noise should have changed considerably.. I'm personally wondering if it were a combination of things that contributed to my issue, possibly effecting my new lifters.. Its a wonder to me that it doesnt appear wide spread that rockers could contact the upper boxes with higher lift cams and or new style gaskets being thinner.. The clearance and geometry of this design lends itself to several potential issues.. When I find my tick, EVERYONE will know about it...

Yeah, been meaning to ask whether it actually changed your noise. When we last spoke you'd not had much time on it. And in your case I'd agree, it should have at least altered something. Evos do transmit a lot and sometimes the harmonics of so many moving parts will combine to make bad music. I forgot which cam you're running... ?

Hope the OP doesnt mind the sidetrack, it is related to his noise.

I've got about 2k on it now. Noise is just as loud as before, no noticible change. The cam is an SE-11 (.508" lift). I ground down the rocker boxes for clearance and adjusted the push rods several times. Still ticking.... I wonder if, since the noise began when I changed to the thinner rocker box gaskets (w/o adjusting the pushrods), it may have allowed the rockers to hit the boxes and damaged my "new" lifters or the lifter blocks....??..... I didnt see an issue with them at all and the cam looks good.. Still runs good, so I'm in a holding (ride it till it gets worse) for the summer..

Hey just to throw it out there, but I was having a hard time figuring out where I was getting a knocking noise for awhile, it would sound like it was coming from one area when on the bike and another when kneeling next to one side and same at the other side. A buddy of mine and I took our stethascopes and traced it down to the primary chain in the primary, I have an m6 adjuster from Hayden and the guy who had the bike before lost his extra plates, so I'm gonna contact hayden and see if I can get some or fabricate one myself. I can't say for sure it will solve my issue but my chain does need to be adjusted. Just thought I'd throw it out there, maybe it will help somebody.

I'm not familiar with them. But, I'd be real leary for the price.. You can get the HD "B" lifters from Zanotti's, delivered to your door about 10-20% cheaper than at the dealer.. I'm not experienced enough to tell you they are the best though...

As for the push rods, YES, do yourself a favor and get the fully adjustable rods. At some point, you'll have to take them out again (for a cam, leak, or something) and you be glad you did.. They allow you to do this type of work without taking the tank and rocker boxes off the bike.. Well worth the extra bux....

+1

If you value your time at even 5.00/hr they will pay nearly half their cost first time you put them in, after that if you ever go into it, they have more than paid for themselves.

I used the Harley "B" lifters in mine but recently read about the Ultima lifters made by Johnson. If I read correctly, Ultima originally was using the Harley "B" lifters but believed the lifters made by Johnson would hold up better with their big inch engines. The Ultima lifters made by Johnson are cheaper than the Harley "B" lifters even at 20% off msrp (Jireh prices), but I have yet to read any posts on individuals that actually used the new Ultima lifters.
