Default Tach sticking

Hi, the tach on my 87 FLHTC started sticking at around 1500 rpms at idle. I have the idle at 1000 rpms. The motor is idleing at 1000rpms but the tach just sticks. It will do this after its warmed up. Sometimes if I tap the gauges it will drop to normal again. If I shut it off and re-start it will run normal. Once it goes over 2500rpms or so it will stick when it returns to idle. Its got 78,000 miles. Anyone have any ideas. I can live with it but it does annoy me.

I don't have an answer for you, but my 90 fxrs would quit working altogether until I tapped on it. Was always gonna take it apart to see what made it tick, but it's worked fine the last couple of years. Now that the season almost over I'll dig into it to see how they work.Is there a liitle motor, or generator, or gears, or what, don't know, but curious. Sorry I was no help. I go back to day shift next week, if I get into it and find something I'll post.
