Default Rocker Gaskets

Hi All

FSQ #2

Is there an alternative to the cork rocker cover gaskets? Or do you have any tips for getting them to stay in place?

I got a James kit when I started my motor rebuild, and tried to fit them. They seem too big to fit in the "channel" around the edge of the covers, one side pops out as it is pressed in.

Cheers

Paul

Are you saying that the James gasket set is cork? The last one that I bought (4 months ago) was rubber and I had no problems with the fit and no leaks.

In my admittedly limited experience I've had a couple gasket situations that gave me the same problem. I don't know if it's correct to do or not, but in those situations I've put the gaskets in the freezer for a bit to get them to contract and that got them to line right up. Seems that sometimes the "bead" of a press-in gasket and the channel it goes in don't always mesh perfectly and shrinking the gasket by freezing it does the trick.

I hope I'm not way off here. I'm sure an expert will chime in but just wanted to make a suggestion.

As for gasket alternatives, there's always Cometic.

Hi

Yes it has 2 lower 2 inner and 2 upper gaskets, all cork.

I'd half thought about the freezer idea myself, I think I'll give it a try.

Cheers

I used to take clear silicon and wipe the cork down let them sit 24 hrs than install them Great gaskets OR use stock rubber gaskets from HD They all worked

I replaced mine with the HD rubber ones, and coated them lightly with Permatex Hylomar. Not a leak in 2000+ miles.
