Talk about resale value....
Here is a '97 Ultra for $5000 on Craigslist that
caught my eye - it needs an oil pump. I think
they still had the EVO in '97.

"last time started oil pressure guage fail to climb to max pressure, bike was
turned off immediately, will need oil pump"

Could be anything from a bad guage or sender to a totally blown motor. I would venture to say that it was not just the oil pump. Maybe: Inner cam bearing let loose, piece went through the oil pump. 65K miles would be about right for a toasted inner cam bearing or a lifter let lose.

1987fxr, trade for the shovel if that's what you think you want. Just remember after the 3rd day that you have it and it's broken that those of us who have owned shovels "told you so." And if you can't be bothered to fix what you have, starting with jetting the carb, you are not going to like shovel ownership.

I got rid of my Troublehead after 250,000 miles and a bunch of rebuilds. It was always reliable on long trips but would then **** the bed as soon as I got home.
It is slower and has a lot more vibration than your FXR. It WILL require a lot more maintenance. Shovels do sound better in my opinion.
I would have traded for your FXR, I really wanted one for a number of years. Now, I will keep my EVO bagger. It is a lot better bike than my Troublehead was.

Not to sound insulting, but I think you are crazy to swap. I rode, owned and wrenched (mainly wrenched) shovelheads for years, went evo and will never, ever go back. All the above comments are correct. That being said, the last one I owned was an 81, which was markedly better than the 78. It's not just the engine, its the other components of that era, the primary, trans, wiring, brakes. If you are tired of your fxr, swap the frame for a Kenny Boyce or do something else to change it around. You've got a great platform there to customize.
