Okay, for all you Touring Rig owners....What is your favorite carb/cam/ignition/exhaust combo? I'm running a stock CV carb that's been reworked, with a SE air cleaner, Dyna 2000 ignition, and Supertrapps with 18 discs. 75hp/82tq. Getting an easy 45 mpg.

Had the Mikuni carb, but went bad on me after 50,000 miles.
I now have the S&S Super E with K&N filter.Have White Brothers exhaust with no baffles.Looking to put the V&H short shots.Wanted the Big Radius but they don't make-em for my scoot

Any problems running the Super E in areas of high altitude?

Not really, but I found a nice mountain range in Upstate NY that I will be riding next season. Here in LI things are pretty flat.

I have a stock carb but added the SE breather kit and Rineharts.
I've been told I wouldn't gain any appreciable horse power but it does seem to have more power especially in the 2500 to 4200 rpm range.

Any guess as to what the HP might be now?

Yeah, I just remember a bunch of dudes re-tuning their S&S carbs at Sturgis in 94. My CV ran fine. I was thinkin about the E series with the Cruise control adapter for my scooter. But, at least for now, it's running fine.

I can't guess what you're at right now. But my bike with the SE air cleaner, EV27 Cam, Dyna ignition, SuperTrapps (18 discs), mild porting job, and a reworked CV carb puts out 75hp/82tq. I've had a few shops tell me that there is nothing wrong with using the stock CV carb on a stock displacement bike. Just needs to get the EPA restrictions tuned out of it.

The next thing I would recommend that you get for your scoot is a cam. I really like the EV27. But look and ask around. It'll really wake up the motor as the stock cam has zero overlap. Replace the crap INA bearing with a good Torrington. Find a good dyno tuner, one that knows EVO's and can tune a carb. You'll Never Look Back....

And dude....I love those Rineharts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thinking about a set for my scoot, as The MoCo is beginning to obsolete some of the exhaust pipes on the EVO's.

I also have to add that the single best upgrade to your EVO is a free breathing air cleaner and exhaust. It really 'woke up' my bike.

I spent last July running in New Mexico, CO, Utah and Wyoming and never had to make an adjustment. I have a 96 FXSTC with S&S Super E and Hooker tuned 2-1. The bike is tuned for home at less than 1000' altitude. We were over 12000' many times. No problems.
