Cracked block
Have an 89 FXR that I've been putting back together...After a few months of working on it, took it out for a spin only to find out the right side case is cracked near the rear mount. I'm looking at a reman from HD, picking up a used engine, or having a local shop replace the bottom end. Top end is fine.
Anyone else been down this road?

I've heard of other people with that problem. Search the site and there's some pictures of what cracks and why. Some years are prone to it. A good TIG welder could probably fix it as well, but you'll still have to pull the whole thing apart.
Looked around and did some asking about the EVO blocks cracking. Turns out the previous owner had some head work done, and I expect a bore-over... I was told that EVOs that make good power can crack where mine did...
I was also told a fix is a "Race Brace" that Screamin Eagle put out but later recalled. ???
I found a transplant motor, so I'm on the hunt for a Race Brace, or the like...Anyone know of one, lemme know.

Make sure your rear brake pedal has plenty of clearance.
