Finally got a few miles on my new top end so took it out on the interstate today and let it eat. 10.5 to 1 pistons, SE-4 cam, duals, rejetted to 45 and 190. Big difference in accelaration. Huge grin factor now. Haven't rode with any twinkies yet, but I think ole Blue can hang with 'em now.
I was hesitant to go in to a stock motor, but since she had 120,000 miles on her and a base gasket leak, I figured what the hay? No regrets now. The bike really pulls good now. Even with my wife on the back. She only weighs 120, but it's a noticeable difference, especially up hills. The engine has a little more valve train noise now (ticking), but I've gotten used to it.
More valve train noise can happen going from the stock cam to the aftermarket SE-4. Valvetrain opening/closing quicker and/or lifting higher. New stock or aftermarket lifters might help a bit.
Or louder pipes ... or a louder stereo.
Hmmm, maybe both!
I took an SE120R powered FXDWG for its last run before the final Dyno set up in the morning.....oh boy, 100mph limit whilst running in but it cruises at that speed on almost no throttle.....tomorrow we find how many ponies are hiding in those big black cases :-)
Bear in mind this is on standard headers because owner wants it to look stock and the V&H straight shots were way too loud.......but its not about ultimate numbers, its fantastic to ride!!!
