Default 98 fuel injected road king fuel problems!!!!

just recently had the bike painted and customized. after installing the tank, the fuel pump sounds weak, and it wont run at more than an idle. could the fuel pump need replacing? is there filters inside the tank that could be pugged, or have i overtightened the lines that bolt into the bottom of the tank. does anyone have any ideas of where i should start, the bike ran fine befor dismantle. nothing was touched as far as the motor goes. like i said, fuel pump is getting power, but sounds very weak. Thanks for your ideas and help. jay

Not a bad idea to replace the fuel filter....especially if its original.

Other than that....check for codes and check fuel pressure.

I agree to change the filter, but that doesn't explain it sounding weak! It suggests to me that your electrical connections or a ground connection is poor. Thoroughly check everything you disturbed.

+1 on the above check filter, look at the grounds and other connections. Also inspect the flex line in the tank, sometimes the split and leak causing problems and don't forget to look for codes.

Check your connections as mentioned first but there is a filter that bolts inside the tank that is pressure BUT if it ran at pull down, can't see why it plugged at initial statup because there is a strainer filter at the bottom of the pickup.

You can also get a better ear on the pump with the cover off, pump is on the left side standing upright and strainer on the bottom, filter will be the first thing you see and HD is proud of them. Can't screw the lines up because they are different sizes but make sure the outlet check valve were the line screws into doesn't have something in it before you screwed the line in, the outlet line is the one with the pipe plug screwed into it, can take a fuel pressure reading there but takes a small fitting adapter. Trying to stay positive but I think you chucked out a pump.
