I spend a little time checking the other forums/threads, and each time it reminds me how lucky I am to ride an EVO.

Nice!

My 98 Ultra, ( EVO,) went 65,000 miles in 4 years, modded engine and on Amsoil, and never a breakdown or a leak.

My current ride, 2000 S/E Road Glide on Mobil 1, is at 108,000 miles, had some early stator issues, and never a leak.

I do my own work, and between the 2, I would choose the EVO. TC's are complicated motors by comparison, though both can be rock dependable if taken care of properly.

Not knowing the maintenance history of the bike you are looking at, I wouldn't take it on a long tip after owning it for only a couple of weeks. I wouldn't do that with a used car or a used TC either. Give it a month or two to allow yourself to become more familiar with the bike before heading out. Evos are extremely reliable and easy to work on as others have said.

I rebuilt my motor 2 years ago and my motor is dry. You get leaks when you ride the **** out of it and don;t warm it up properly.

My old '85 Evo powered FXST never leaked a drop of oil. That engine was simple, and bulletproof.

I live in New Mexico and ride through the desert on a regular basis.
I have never had an oil problem with my Evo.
The oil pressure drops a little at idle with the heat but it runs fine.

That bike knows better than to leave him stranded.

I wouldn't embark on a trip that long on anything, new bike, new car, used bike, used car, without putting at least that many miles on it around home.

True story, my friend but a 2010 Street Glide brand new, has had the dealer do all the recommended maintenance. He's had two bolts fall out of his tranny that had to be replaced, and has had the inner primary gasket replaced twice, all under warranty. Anything can develop leaks. Not bashing anything, just trying to illustrate that nothing is guaranteed.
